The Classroom Accommodation Network's (CAN) mission is to assist educators with identifying and implementing accommodations in the classroom to assist students with disabilities in gaining access to a quality higher education. Funded through the U.S. Department of Education, CAN plans to meet our mission through research, workshops, mentoring, lectures, and technical assistance. CAN is a toll-free consultation and research service. While our target audience is college and university staff and personnel, anyone may call CAN with questions regarding accommodations in postsecondary education. The consultants who respond to your questions recognize the broad range of disability issues and have comprehensive up-to-date information about accommodations, teaching methods, and strategies. CAN protects the confidentiality of communication between caller and consultant. The Classroom Accommodation Network (CAN) will assist you in: · Recognizing the needs of the students with disabilities in higher education · Recognizing the transition and adjustment needs of college students with disabilities · Recognizing and understanding the need for accommodations and assistive technology in the classroom · Identifying effective teaching strategies · Becoming more familiar with the experiences and voices of college students with disabilities
