Accommodations for Students with Specific Disabilities

Students with Visual Impairments

  •  Allow students to audiotape lectures.

  •  Give copies of overheads, Power Point slides, and lecture notes to students.

  •  Allow extended exam times.

Students with Hearing Impairments

  •  Allow students to tape record the lectures.

  •  Face the class when speaking to allow students to read your lips.

  •  Use a microphone when lecturing to a large class.

Students with Learning Disabilities or ADHD

  •  Present information in multiple formats, including lecture and overheads.

  •  Outline each lecture or write key concepts on the board prior to each lecture.

  •  Summarize major points at the end of each lecture.

  •  Allow students to test in a quiet, non-distracting room.

  •  Allow students to have extended time for exams.

Mobility Impairments

  •  Provide electronic notes or Power Point slides to students prior to the lecture.

  •  Allow students to have extended time for exams.

Health Impairments

  •  Have flexible attendance requirements and flexible deadlines for assignments.
